Choose one of the following
two projects:
Project 1:
- Think of a crime-related problem in your own
community.
- Describe the criminal problem and try to find a
pattern.
- Explain the problem and/or pattern by reference to
the criminological theories we discussed in class.
- Choose a thesis about the problem you are
researching.
- Develop your thesis. Think of arguments, examples,
and cases that will help you prove your thesis. You need to do research to
find support for your arguments.
- Use at least two journal articles dealing with
criminology theories as sources for your essay.
- Cite every idea that is not yours. Cite every
paragraph where you do not use your own language.
- Organize your essays as discussed in class.
- You are encouraged to discuss your essay at any stage
with the instructor.
- While writing your essay, please bear in mind the
evaluation criteria, particularly the requirement that the essay must make
reference to class discussions and activities.
- Length: Maximum 5 doubled-space pages.
Project 2:
- Read the following statement
posted by V. Fabrikant dealing with four murders in Montreal.
- Explain Fabrikant's reasons that led him to commit the crimes
by making reference to a criminology theory or theories.
- Analyze the crimes committed.
- Choose a thesis about the reasons given to explain the
commission of these crimes. You can argue, for example, that he had
psychological problems and that these are the true reasons for the
murders.
- Develop your thesis. Think of arguments, examples, and cases
that will help you prove your thesis. You need to do research to find
support for your arguments.
- Use at least two journal articles dealing with criminology
theories as sources for your essay.
- Cite every idea that is not yours. Cite every paragraph where
you do not use your own language.
- Organize your essays as discussed in class.
- You are encouraged to discuss your essay at any stage with the

discussed in class, your essay will not be satisfactory.
