EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE

The Police

Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break, every step you take
I'll be watching you

Every single day
And every word you say
Every game you play, every night you stay
I'll be watching you

Oh, can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night, I can only see your face
I look around, but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please

Oh, can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake, every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
Every move you make, every step you take
I'll be watching you
I'll be watching you

Dialogue (excerpts)

Richard Farley: It's gonna be real hard for us to have a relationship if you keep refusing to go out with me.
Laura Black: Rich, the only relationship that we're gonna have is a professional one in the office!

Richard Farley: Don't make me angry... you wouldn't like me when I'm angry.

Laura Black: What is it? How far are you going to push this? What do you want? You want to kill me? You want to rape me?
Richard Farley: You and I were meant for each other, Laura.
Laura Black: Why me? Just tell me, why me?
Richard Farley: All I know is, you and I were meant to be together, forever.

Richard Farley: I want her to live. She can't regret it if she doesn't live.

Penny: Do you understand that sexual harassment is against the law? You could be fired!
Richard Farley: If I lost my job, I'd have nothing to live for.
Penny: That's my point. We want you to stay.
Richard Farley: I have guns. I'd kill myself. I wouldn't be the only one; others would go.
Penny: Rich, are you saying if you were fired, you would kill me?
Richard Farley: Yes. Not just you, I'd take others as well.
[Long silence]
Richard Farley: Excuse me.
[Farley gets up and leaves.]

[Joey enters holding a letter]

JOEY: Hey, hey, check it out, guess what I got.

CHANDLER: Rhythm?

JOEY: No, my first fan mail.

ALL: Alright!

MONICA: [reading] 'Dear Dr. Remore, know that I love you and would do
anything to have you.' Gosh. 'Your not-so-secretive admirer,
Erica Ford.' Ooh wait, 'PS enclosed please find 14 of my
        eyelashes.'

RACHEL: Ya know, in crazy world, that means you're married.

MONICA: This wasn't addressed to Days of Our Lives, this is, this
came to your apartment. There's no stamp on it, this woman
        was in our building.

JOEY: Oh my god, I got my very own stalker.

[Ross enters with a suitcase]

ROSS: Hey guys.

ALL: Hey.

PHOEBE: Ooh, where are you off to, Travelin' Jake?

ROSS: Well, there's this, uh, paleontology conference in L.A. so I
figured I'd go and then drive down to the zoo and surprise
      Marcel.

CHANDLER: You know I think he will be surprised, 'till he realizes
he's a monkey, and uh, you know, isn't capable of that
          emotion.

[Scene: Chandler and Joey's apartment. Chandler and Joey are

[door buzzer goes off]

CHANDLER: Hello.

ERICA: It's Erica.

JOEY: Ah, the stalker.

ERICA: Never mind, it's open.

CHANDLER: [Joey grabs a frying pan] Yes, hitting her with a frying
pan's a good idea. We might wanna have a backup plan,
though, just in case she isn't a cartoon.

JOEY: Let's get out of here.

[They run out and knock on Monica and Rachel's door]

CHANDLER: The one time they're not home.

JOEY: OK, we'll just leave, and when we pass her on the stairs, she
won't know it's me 'cause we've never met.

CHANDLER: That's how radio stars escape stalkers.

JOEY: She's comin'.

[Both run back in their apartment. There's a knock at the door.]

ERICA: It's me.

JOEY: Uhh, this is it, this is how we're gonna die. Ready?

CHANDLER: Wait, wait, wait. [Opens the top of the dish soap he's
          holding]

[Joey opens the door and sees Erica (Brooke Shields). Joey gets a
huge smile and Chandler squeezed the dish soap in the air.]

SCENARIOS

Please consider whether there is criminal harassment (stalking) in each of the following scenarios. If so, please also identify the kind of stalker.

Scenario 1

Ever since he was a teenager, Prof. Julian Hermida has had a huge crush on Brooke Shields. He has always bought her posters, pictures, and has watched all her movies and TV shows. He even shows her videos in class whenever he has a chance. Professor Hermida has also the dubious record of being eBay’s ever highest bidder for a signed photograph when he paid US$ 275 plus shipping and handling for an 8 X 10 glossy picture signed by Brooke Shields herself –or at least, so he thinks.

Last spring, when Professor Hermida learned that Brooke Shields would play in a musical (Chicago) in London, UK, he traveled to England to see the play. After the show, he waited for her outside the Adelphi Theatre –like many other fans- and asked her for her autograph.

Scenario 2

Michelle is the new exchange student from New York University. All the guys are asking her out. Sally is very jealous and spreads the rumor that Michelle is “easy” and a “slut”.

Scenario 3

Professor Cooper, a newly recruited Human Justice Assistant Professor at the University of Regina, is madly in love with one of his students –Alyssa. He repeatedly asked her to go to his office during his office hours with any sort of excuse (share his class notes with her, explain new theories and even reveal the questions of the test). The student went to his office, but when she realized the meetings didn’t have an academic purpose she stopped going. Professor Cooper went crazy and engaged in a bizarre and obsessive pattern of behavior that included relentless e-mail messages, phone calls, “love” poems, and numerous communications that spread lies about her to other professors at the University of Regina. Alyssa felt afraid, vulnerable, and helpless.

Alyssa and her boyfriend asked Professor Cooper to stop all this. But the Professor continued to pursue the student through other means, such as posting poems about her on his Web site, engaging in incidents of watching her in the library, and sending indirect communications through her colleagues.

Scenario 4

Andrea Reebok reports that her parents are being intimidated by her former boyfriend. After a short, but abusive relationship, Andrea left Keith McLean and moved to another community. Andrea feared Keith McLean would harm her when he discovered she had left him, so she left no forwarding address. This evening McLean went over to her parent's home and demanded to know where she had moved. Her parents refused to provide him with the address. McLean threatened to “make their life a living hell” until they told him. He smashed several family heirloom vases, kicked in their grandfather clock, and stormed out the door stating he would return and they would be sorry. He told them he would “kick the crap out of both of them next time.”
