Make-up Test: Rules and Conditions
Ø Any student that came to class when I
distributed the tests and got a grade below 65% (13/20) may write the make-up
test.
Ø If, according to the evaluation
criteria, you write a very good make-up test, you can get up to 3 extra points
in your midterm. It is expected that your work be of very high quality to earn
these 3 extra points.
Ø However, if you did not get a passing
mark in the original test, you can get up to a passing mark, even if that means
more than 3 extra points. But I will raise your grade up to a passing mark if
your score in the make up is, at least, 2 out of a total of 3.
Ø The make-up test may only raise your
mark up to a maximum grade of 13.50 in the in-class test. This is to ensure
fairness to those that did very well in the in-class test the first time, as
the grades of A and B reflect considerable evidence of original thinking and
demonstrated outstanding capacity to analyze and synthesize obtained during
regular evaluation assignments.
Ø Under extraordinary circumstances, I
may raise the mark by more than 3 points, even beyond C+. But, this possibility
applies only to those very few students that have made extraordinarily positive
contributions in virtually every single class and for some reasons did not do
very well in the test. I have already talked to these students, so you already
know whether you are in this category or not. So, you do not need to ask me
whether this rule applies to you or not. Again, this is restricted to very few
students and those of you in this category already know that you can have a
grade beyond C+ if you do very well in the make up.
Ø A poor performance in this make-up
test will not lower your original grade, but it will forfeit your possibility
to write another make-up test in the future if you happen to do poorly in
another in class-test.
Ø The make-up test will take place on
the date announced in class. Any one that does not come to class that day may
NOT write it, even in case of illness or other excruciating reasons. This is
not an exam or for regular-credit assignment, in which case being sick or
having other valid reasons may qualify students for a make-up. In other words,
this make-up test is considered a privilege and not a right.
Ø If you do not write the make-up test,
even when I encouraged you to do so, you will not be penalized.
Ø Please bear in mind that there may
NOT be a make-up test for the final take-home evaluation.
Ø The make-up test will consist of two
questions. I will choose the questions from the test bank. Please study hard
for the make-up.
Ø These rules and condition elaborate
upon the section entitled Privileges: Extensions, Waivers, and Other
Authorizations from the Course Outline. Please read that section from your
course outline. Because of the nature of make up tests, these rules may change
from time to time. If so, any changes will be posted on the course website.
